The new Arduino Mega 2560 will sport the same Atmel USB chip of the new Arduino UNO plus an ATMega2560 processor with twice as much flash memory. This board will have the same graphic design as the Arduino UNO.
At the moment, due to limitations in the GCC compiler only 128k of flash are immediately useable but they're very close to unlocking the whole memory space.
Arduino is an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple i/o board and a development environment that implements the Processing/Wiring language. Arduino can be used to develop stand-alone interactive objects or can be connected to software on your computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP). The open-source IDE can be downloaded for free (currently for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux).
The new board is 100% compatible with old ones, in terms of mechanical, functional and programming features.
