| Notes | History of the Fisher Space Pen Paul Fisher developed the Fisher Space Pen almost 40 years ago during a time when the "race for space" was being fought. When astronauts began to fly they used ordinary pencils. The lead of these pencils could easily brake off causing dangerous situations when they floated around in the gravity-less space cabin. A safer and more reliable writing instrument was needed, the Fisher Space Pen. More than two million dollars went into the development of the Fisher Space Pen and in 1965 Paul Fisher successfully developed the first pressurized Fisher Space Pens. Ordinary ball pens rely on gravity to feed the ink and have an opening to allow air to replace ink as it is used. But there is no hole in the hermetically sealed and pressurized Space Pens. Evaporation, wasted ink and back leakage are eliminated. Shelf life is increased from a normal two years to an estimated 100 years. Your Fisher Space Pen is unconditionally guaranteed to give you good, satisfactory service both here on Earth and in Space. |
